A very popular houseplant, Kleinia petraea, more commonly known as a 'Jade' plant, is a succulent shrub with vining branches that trail along the soil, which differentiates this plant from Crassula ovata. The leaves will often have brown or mauve coloring on the underside and edges. Jades thrive in bright, full sun. Water deeply and allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. These plants can tolerate a very light frost, but thrives in warmer temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Jades flower in mid-winter to early spring, producing orange flowers on stems up to 16 inches tall.
